Historic Manor in La Canada Flintridge

Naturalwalls installed waterproofing, lath, natural hydraulic lime (NHL 3.5) and lime wash to this century old manor. NHL is the perfect exterior material for historic buildings such as this where it’s important to maintain a vapor permeable exterior surface.

NHL exterior stucco allows water vapor to “breath” out of the walls reducing the chance of damage to the structure from dry rot and mildew. Painted cement stucco (the system used on most buildings these days) tends to trap moisture behind the paint layers in the dense pore structure of the cement.

The low density thermal mass of exterior lime stucco also improves the thermal characteristics of the building envelope, whereas high density cement stucco walls tend to hold temperatures i.e. they stay hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
